Design & Details
The clear, silver-grey dial with vertical sunburst finish is accentuated by subtle red markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock – a nod to the color scheme of the Ultraman Dyna suit.
The distinctive GUTS logo is located at 6 o'clock as a relief print.
The case back features the official Ultraman Dyna engraving with © TPC license and shows the hero in a typical fighting pose.
The watch is flat, light and, thanks to its understated design, also suitable for everyday use – a rarity among Japanese collector watches.
Background: Ultraman, TDG and their cultural significance
The Ultraman series was created in 1966 under the direction of Eiji Tsuburaya , the special effects pioneer of the Godzilla films. It established the Japanese genre of Tokusatsu (special effects hero series) and continues to influence East Asian pop culture to this day.
The abbreviation TDG stands for the "Heisei Trilogy" consisting of Ultraman Tiga (1996) , Ultraman Dyna (1997) , and Ultraman Gaia (1998) – three consecutive series that redefined the Ultraman universe in the modern era. At its heart is the organization GUTS/SUPER GUTS , an interplanetary defense force with a scientific and technological focus, whose symbol can be seen on this SEIKO model.
In Japan, Ultraman is a cult figure with a similar iconic status to Batman or Star Wars in the West. Merchandising, films, and special editions from brands like Seiko, Bandai, and Volks are central to his fandom.
This limited edition watch was created to celebrate TDG's anniversary and symbolizes the connection between Japanese technology, design and pop cultural heritage.
