A Calendar on the Wrist – and one of Orient's most distinctive traditions.

The dial of this Orient not only displays the current date. The Multi-Year Calendar combines month, weekday, and date information into a graphic calendar overview that extends over a large part of the dial.

What seems unusual today has an astonishingly long history at Orient: Orient introduced its first Multi-Year Calendar as early as 1965. The original model was still hand-wound and featured a calendar for the years 1960 to 1981. Later, Orient transferred the concept to automatic watches – making the Multi-Year Calendar one of the brand's most characteristic model families.

Thus, this EUAA-C0 CS also stands in a tradition maintained by Orient for decades: mechanical watches whose appeal lies not in a classic complication à la Swiss model, but in an independent, distinctly Japanese solution for displaying calendar information.

Incidentally, Orient adheres to this concept to this day and continues to offer mechanical watches under the name Multi Year Calendar in its program.

The Multi-Year Calendar Display

Instead of relegating calendar information to small windows, Orient makes it an essential part of the dial design.

The upper section contains the month and calendar display, below which is the weekday information; the lower part features the complete date matrix from 1 to 31. The classic date window is also located on the right.

By combining these displays, the respective weekday of a date can be read directly on the dial. The principle is as analog as it is charming: no electronic memory, no display, but a mechanical wristwatch that also serves as a small annual calendar.

This is precisely the charm of the Multi-Year Calendar. The function is not integrated as invisibly as possible, but consciously defines the watch's appearance. One reads the dial almost like a pocket calendar – and at the same time, the wealth of information functions as a graphic composition.

A True Orient Tradition

The Multi-Year Calendar is one of those watches that instantly identifies an Orient.

While Seiko and Citizen distributed many of their technical developments across different model series, Orient stuck to some particularly idiosyncratic concepts for decades. Besides the well-known World-Timer and Power-Reserve models, the Multi-Year Calendar is one of the characteristic examples of this philosophy.

This also makes the watch interesting from today's collector's perspective: it is not just a mere variant of a classic Day-Date watch, but represents a distinct design and calendar tradition of Orient that has been revived repeatedly since the 1960s.

The EUAA-C0 interprets this concept in a significantly more angular and technical form than the early models – with an integrated-looking steel bracelet, a faceted case, and a dial that deliberately displays its wealth of information.

Design and Character

The stainless steel case is octagonal, with clearly defined facets and an alternation between polished and brushed surfaces. The angular, technical design language perfectly matches the information density of the dial.

The seemingly integrated lugs flow directly into the solid original Orient stainless steel bracelet, giving the watch a very cohesive appearance.

The dial is bright white. Applied indices with luminous material clearly stand out from the calendar displays, ensuring that the hour and minute remain immediately legible despite the multitude of additional information. The Orient crest and brand signature are located at 9 o'clock.

At 35 × 37.5 mm without the crown, the watch has compact dimensions, but due to the case shape and the exceptionally wide 22mm lug width, it appears significantly more present on the wrist.

The height is 12.7 mm. Together with the solid stainless steel bracelet, this creates an unusual combination of a compact case and a powerful, almost architectural design.

The watch comes on the original Orient steel bracelet.

Condition

The watch shows visible signs of wear and scratches on the case, crystal, and original metal bracelet. The actual condition is deliberately shown unretouched in the product photos.

Especially with an older mechanical watch, these traces are part of its past history; the detailed product images are decisive for the offered condition.
