TACS NATO-LENS TS1503A – Camera Lens Design – Miyota Quartz

A camera for the wrist – one of TACS' most distinctive design ideas.

With the NATO-LENS, TACS translates the form of a camera lens into a wristwatch.

The dial consists of several concentric layers, stacked like aperture rings and lens groups of a photographic lens. The hands appear to float above a real lens.

The result functions initially as an unusual designer watch from a distance – but up close, it looks almost like a small camera lens.

The photographic tradition of TACS

Photography is one of TACS' recurring design themes.

Across various LENS models, the brand has incorporated camera elements such as lens rings, apertures, focus markings, and typical engravings of classic camera lenses into watch designs.

With the NATO-LENS, this approach is implemented particularly consistently.

The reference TS1503A features a stainless steel case with a diameter of approximately 44 mm and is equipped with a Japanese Miyota quartz movement.

The Dial

The dial design is deliberately three-dimensional.

Several concentric rings create the optical depth of a camera lens. The outer markings are reminiscent of the scales on a lens.

Classic hour markers deliberately recede into the background compared to the photographic concept.

Precisely because of this, the watch appears less like an ordinary wristwatch with camera decoration, and much more like a camera lens that additionally tells the time.

Case

The brushed stainless steel case has a diameter of approximately 44 mm.

With a height of around 13.6 mm, the NATO-LENS is deliberately prominent on the wrist.

The design of the case back continues the camera theme. It features, among other things, the TACS logo, the model designation, and technical specifications.

Strap

The example offered here comes with a black sporty strap.

This is not the strap originally offered for this reference. This has already been taken into account in the pricing.

Condition

The watch is used and shows normal signs of wear on the case and strap.

The characteristic lens optics are well preserved and form the essential design appeal of the model.

The actual condition is shown unretouched in the product photos.
