Wancher Dream Pen Echizen Urushi Sakura Zukiyo
Wancher Dream Pen Echizen Urushi Sakura Zukiyo
The Sakura – the Japanese cherry blossom – is the symbol of spring. For a brief moment, the blossoms shine in soft light, creating a beauty that is as fleeting as it is unforgettable.
The Sakura Zukiyo fountain pen captures exactly this feeling: the memory of a quiet, poetic moment in spring.
Sakura Zukiyo – Cherry Blossoms in Moonlight
"Zukiyo" describes the nocturnal atmosphere under moonlight.
The Sakura Zukiyo captures the scene where cherry blossom petals float through the moonlight on a mild spring night – an image deeply connected to Japanese aesthetics and the concept of Wabi-sabi: beauty in transience, in imperfection, in the moment.
With this edition, Wancher aims to capture the essence of Japan – not as a perfect reproduction, but as an honest approximation of something that cannot truly be fully held.
Echizen Urushi – 9000 Years of Lacquer Tradition
Echizen Urushi originates from the Echizen region in Fukui Prefecture and is one of Japan's oldest lacquer traditions.
The lacquer is obtained from the sap of the Urushi tree and applied in extremely thin layers. Each layer must dry completely before the next is applied – a process that can take months.
Special features of Echizen Urushi:
– Over 9000 years of tradition
– Family-run workshops over generations
– High resistance to water, heat, and acids
– An incomparably deep, warm luster
This combination of history, craftsmanship, and durability makes Echizen Urushi one of Japan's most revered lacquer techniques.
Kindai Maki-e – Modern Interpretation of a Historic Art
The Sakura Zukiyo is decorated with Kindai Maki-e – a modern evolution of the classic Maki-e technique.
This method allows for rich, vibrant depictions of cherry blossoms and lends the fountain pen an elegant, poetic charisma.
Each artist interprets the technique in their own way, giving each piece an individual signature.
Design & Craftsmanship
The Sakura Zukiyo is made of ABS and built up in numerous layers with Echizen Urushi.
Each layer is carefully applied, dried, polished, and refined again – a process that demands the highest precision.
The result is a surface with a gentle sheen, organic depth, and a subtle, moonlight-like radiance.
The fountain pen sits balanced in the hand and offers a pleasant, controlled writing experience.
The airtight cap reliably protects the nib from drying out, making the Sakura Zukiyo suitable for everyday use.

Nib & Ink Flow
The Sakura Zukiyo is available with two high-quality nib variations:
– #6 JoWo Stainless Steel Nib
– Wancher 18K Gold Nib
Various feeds are available for ink flow:
– Plastic
– Ebonite Black
– Ebonite Red
This allows the writing behavior to be perfectly adapted to personal preferences.
