The Dream Pen Raden Kara-nuri is a masterpiece of Tsugaru-Urushi art. Each surface is built up, lacquered, sanded, and refined in numerous artisanal steps. Since the Kara-nuri technique requires a particularly thin layer of lacquer, the structure of the Raden inlays is deliberately easy to feel.
The characteristic traces of the Shikake-bera, a special spatula tool, remain visible – a sign of genuine craftsmanship and not a flaw.

Each fountain pen is unique, with individual texture, depth, and radiance.

Raden Kara-nuri – Tsugaru Urushi in its most artistic form

Kara-nuri is one of the most demanding techniques of the Tsugaru-Urushi tradition from Aomori, Japan. It creates the typical patterns Shiro-age or Midori-age, which only become visible after the final sanding process.
The Raden technique complements this structure with inlaid mother-of-pearl pieces that shimmer in the light, giving the fountain pen extraordinary depth.

The interplay of Kara-nuri and Raden creates a surface that is at once artistic, organic, and distinctive.

Note on the name "Midori-age": "Midori" means green, "age" means raised – it describes the greenish base color that becomes visible after sanding.

Design & Craftsmanship

The Dream Pen Raden Kara-nuri is made of ebonite and lacquered in multiple layers with Urushi.
Each layer is carefully applied, dried, sanded, and built up again – a process that takes weeks and demands the highest precision.

The combination of natural ebonite, traditional Urushi, and shimmering Raden makes each pen a portable work of art.

Writing Experience & Ergonomics

The fountain pen sits balanced in the hand and offers a pleasant, warm writing experience – typical of ebonite.
The airtight cap reliably protects the nib from drying out, making the Dream Pen suitable for everyday use.
