The Dream Watch – Hibi-nuri "Aka Fuji" combines traditional Japanese lacquer art with modern watchmaking technology. The Urushi base of the dial is meticulously handcrafted by Urushi master Yoko Hirota using the elaborate Hibi-nuri technique: the master applies a mixture containing egg white (Japanese ranpaku) to the Urushi layer. This reacts with the lacquer surface, causing it to crack in a controlled manner and revealing the underlying layers. This creates the characteristic, vibrant crack structure that changes depending on the light – no two dials are alike.
On this handcrafted Urushi surface, the classic motif of "Aka Fuji," the glowing red Mount Fuji, unfolds, applied using traditional Maki-e technique with fine gold powder. The interplay of Master Hirota's crack structure and the golden Fuji motif makes each dial unique. The gold-colored stainless steel case and brown leather strap pick up the warm tones of the dial and complete this special unique piece.
